FA Cup Final – 1931
West Brom became the first team from the second division to win the FA cup at Wembley. In what proved to be the wettest final in living memory, they met midlands rivals Birmingham City on the field. West Brom’s W.G Richardson proved no stick in the mud and scored both of West Brom’s goals, the winner straight from the restart as Birmingham City had snatched an equalizer.

Manchester City 3-1 Birmingham City
FA Cup Final – 1956
The 1956 FA Cup final saw Bert Trautmann emerge as the hero as he was awesome in goal for Manchester City. By the time Manchester City had reached the 1956 FA Cup Final, Trautmann was considered by many as the finest goalkeeper in the league. With 15 minutes remaining in the final, Trautmann dived to save at the feet of Birmingham City’s Peter Murphy and badly injured his neck. Despite being in agony, he continued the match as Manchester City defeated Birmingham 3-1 in the final.

Birmingham City3-1 Aston Villa
League cup final 1963
Birmingham City met their local rivals, Aston Villa in the 1963 league cup final. Birmingham beat Villa comfortably and was the winners of the 1963 League Cup. It was Birmingham’s first ever piece of silverware won in a season which they struggled in the first division, finishing off in 20th position.

Liverpool 1-1 Birmingham City
League Cup Final 2001
A second division side reached the final once again the following year, as Liverpool met Birmingham. The match was tied at 1-1 after extra time and the game was forced to penalties. Andy Johnston of Birmingham missed his crucial penalty and Liverpool were the league cup winners of 2001. Steve Bruce had performed heroics in Birmingham as he guided the club to premiership football at the end of the 2001 – 2002 campaign.
